In 1991, manufacturers involved in commercial production of Dresden Stollen® joined forces to form a special interest group, the Dresden Stollen Protection Association. This association guarantees consumers that the delicious Dresden Stollen® is of a constant high quality with a quality certificate, an oval seal with an individual label for each company and the text “Dresdner Stollen Schutzverband e.V.”.
The protection association represents the interests of approximately 150 bakeries and confectioners from greater Dresden area, and protects Dresden Stollen as a brand product and a geographic designation of origin.
The quality seal and the control number on it provide consumers with clear information on the origin and quality of the traditional Christmas cake. According to a study by Infratest, over 60% of all Germans associate the term “Dresdner Stollen” with an origin in Dresden. Today, Dresden Stollen® is registered as a protected product with the German Patent Office, including multiple trademarks and brands.
